If traveling to Colorado or the French Pyrenees to get the benefits of altitude training doesn’t fit your schedule simply visit us. Our altitude training centre in Mosman on Sydney’s north shoreis equipped with two state-of-the-art altitude chambers K1 and K2. These are driven by technology developed through the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) for use by Australian Olympians in their preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games and beyond.
We’ve spared nothing here to create a world-class facility. There is simply no-one elsewhere in NSW offering what we are in infrastructure and technology to the general public. And that’s what we love – accessibility to the best possible altitude training for anyone: weekend warriors, trekkers, time-starved execs, busy mums, and elite athletes.
the heart of the system
Our two chambers K1 & K2 are the heart of our facility with a capacity to simulate an altitude of 5,000 metres. We run these at an altitude equivalent of around 3,600m to provide an optimal altitude conditioning effect.
K1 is the larger chamber, and it houses some of the world’s best cardio vascular conditioning equipment. With six ‘Velotron computerised bikes’ we are proud to say we have the best commercial cycle training facility in the country – and, of course, cycle training is fabulous low-stress training modality for many other disciplines like running, rowing to core cardio fitness.
At an altitude of some 3,500 metres you can use the full range of the Velotron’s computerised capabilities: you can choose simulated rides from dozens of courses the world over, including all the IronMan courses, or you can time trial, or you can choose to pace against yourself or race up to five others in the room at the same time! And your performance is monitored and recorded and sent to you, so you know exactly how you are getting on.
Or, you can choose a high-altitude walking session, ideal for building cardiovascular fitness and increasing weight loss with a proven 30% greater energy burn rate than the same exercise at sea level. Or, choose to walk and run in turns. Or simply run. Just ask for guidance from one of the team.
K2 offers a mix of physical condition equipment including the Concept2 Nordic SkiErg through bikes to steppers and resistance machines designed to improve functional strength. K2 delivers 360 degree cardio/strength conditioning at an altitude of 3,500m. You can’t get a more time-efficient and effective workout anywhere else.
The Icing on the Mountain
You may wish to train by yourself, in a group or with a personal trainer in either chamber.
Whatever you choose to do, you will be supervised and monitored at all times by one of the SAT team, all highly qualified in both fitness and altitude training. Not only will we provide tests, programs, and in-the-moment training tips, we will closely monitor your personal reaction to the altitude through personal pulse oximeters, ensuring not only absolute safety, but maximisation of your altitude experience.
Of course, our facilities include showers and change rooms, to ensure your return to sea level is made in comfort!
