Mark Davidson contests 2012 DAKAR Rally

Mark Davidson 2012 DAKER Rally

...last year when crossing the Andes I was struck by altitude sickness, got really dizzy, passed out and crashed.

The 2012 DAKAR takes competitors from Argentina to Peru. The event includes 14 days of racing with competitors covering over 9,000km on the ground (5,000km as the Condor flies). The route will transport the rally from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to those of the Pacific. Constantly guided by the Andes Mountain range, the drivers and riders will be crossing the Atacama in Chile and will then experience the diversity of the dunes as they head into Peru. Wishing Mark a great ride!

“It took a long time to happen. I still have fond memories of seeing the Dakar take off from Paris in 1989. Last year the first days were fantastic but during the first four days on easy stages I never felt tested. But when crossing the Andes I was struck by altitude sickness, got really dizzy, passed out and crashed. I’ve now prepared for the altitude and will take the necessary medication. My ambition is simply to finish. It’s a big challenge but I’m up for it. I know what can happen. I’m just an Australian trying to do his best….” Said Mark.
